Triotech raises $80 million


Triotech, a creator of interactive, media-based attractions, has raised $80 million in funding. The round was led by the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.

The company creates attractions for theme parks and other large media companies. Triotech calls itself a global leader in immersive and interactive attractions for the entertainment industry. It designs, manufactures and markets rides that integrate several technologies to deliver a multi-sensorial experience.

Triotech’s founder Ernest Yale told Yahoo! Finance that he’s “very pleased that our vision for the future for Triotech is backed by partners committed to the development of our business and who are among the largest financial institutions in Québec.”

From experiencing 2G’s of force with 400 movements per second on Triotech’s signature seat to shooting zombies with the “best-in-class targeting system,” the company has created a wealth of attractions. Interactive Dark Rides and 6D motion simulators, from the XD Dark Ride to the Interactive Cinema and Typhoon, Triotech’s line-up of award-winning products is fully designed, developed, manufactured, and installed by the Pleateau-based team.

“Triotech is among the innovative companies that do Québec proud on the international stage, and it continues to think big,” said Normand Chouinard, executive vice president of investments at the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.

Founded 1999, Triotech has 150 employees distributed between its Montréal head office, its Joliette plant, and its U.S. and China offices.

To date, Triotech products are installed in more than 50 countries across all continents and over 53 million people have experienced them. In 2015, the company “revolutionized its industry” by developing the hand-gesture Maestro technology. The rides that integrate this technology are currently being deployed in Legoland amusement parks. They’ll be deployed throughout the world in the years to come, according to the company.

Triotech has an impressive list of clients, including Canada’s Wonderland, Merlin Entertainment Group, LEGO, Ripley’s, Warner Bro’s, LooneyTunes and more.
